If your looking for a surveillance system that’s simple to setup and literally works right out the box, the Dropcam Pro definitely deserves your attention. This little camera is by far one of the most powerful (related to features) and highest rated surveillance cameras in its category. The Pro comes in as the newest generation in the Dropcam family, following its predecessor the Dropcam HD. The Dropcam Pro is best known for its simplistic design, ease of use and flagship features.
Some of these features include 8x zoom, night vision, mobile alerts and an option for cloud recording. Another great feature to mention is two-way audio, the entire concept behind it is just mind blowing. The ability to communicate with your loved ones and pets is an amazing feeling and I think every surveillance camera on the market should have this! Aside from these great features, its setup is also fairly easy. For most users this will consist of plugging in, configuring settings and mounting the camera. Once your setup is done you can then download the Dropcam app, which will allow you watch a live video stream of all your cameras at once. The Dropcam app is also available as a free download for Android and iOS.
Now keep in mind that every great product comes with its issues and this camera is no exception. For starters I think the price point is a little on the high side. The Dropcam Pro comes in at $199 while the Dropcam HD is still $149. In my opinion they could of offered the Pro at $149 and lowered the Dropcam HD to $99. Another issue I found was the quality of the mic when using it in “HD” mode. I feel that the two-way audio feature is just simply useless as the actual sound is too broken up to use, regardless of an excellent Wi-Fi signal. Please note that this wasn’t an issue when I placed the camera in SD mode but it did lower the video quality. The last issue I found was the price of the cloud recording service. Dropcam charges $9.95 a month for the first camera and 50% off for any additional camera. I personally think the $9.95 a month price tag should be dropped to $4.95 a month for your entire surveillance setup, but that’s just my opinion!
Now for those questioning an upgrade from their existing Dropcam HD, let me just say for me the new enhanced features are like night and day. As for those that are in the market for a new surveillance system, the Dropcam Pro could be the perfect fit for you. You can pick up a Dropcam Pro from Amazon today!
