This first in its series is called “App of the Week,” in which we dive right into the large market of mobile apps and let you know which apps we think are worthy of your download. Before we get started, a quick rundown of what we look for when picking an app. Our criteria is broken down into four sections:
The app must be available on more than one platform i.e. phone, tablet and mobile os
The app must be fully functional in every sense of the app
The app must be reasonably priced across all platforms
The app must have a strong history of support and updates and/or have a great development team with a strong track record
SLEEP CYCLE $0.99
This week we dive right in and take a look at “Sleep Cycle.” This app is an alarm based app which allows its user to analyze their sleeping patterns. Seems simple but with basic functionality there is always a catch, and with this app there is no exception.
“Sleep Cycle” has one unique feature, it claims to help millions of people wake up feeling rested! Now the question is does it really work and if so, how? Our team decided to put this app through 10 days of testing and what we found was surprising! If used properly (follow the instructions) the app simply works. We found ourselves awake and well rested on nine out of the 10 days tested.
With the help of your phone’s built in accelerometer this app is able to monitor your movements throughout the night. With this calculated data the app can then determine if you’re in a light or deep sleep. Once you’re in a light sleep the app will start to wake you within a 30 minute window. You also have the option to pick a specific alarm tone that will gradually get louder and louder throughout this 30 minute window. This is the formula that is used to wake you and cause you to feel fully rested. This app also comes with a neat feature that lets you play natural sounds while you sleep.
After 10 days of testing our team agreed that “Sleep Cycle” could easily replace the stock alarm apps found on our phones. We hope you enjoyed and found this review helpful and for 99 cents we think this app is a no-brainer!
